Tattoo Aftercare Guide
How you care for your tattoo now determines how it looks forever.
Caring for a fresh tattoo is just as important as the tattooing itself. Follow this guide carefully — your skin is healing, and how you treat it over the next few days directly affects the final result.
Step 1 – First 24 Hours
If Using Plastic Wrap
- Remove the protective wrap within 1 hour max.
- Wash your hands first, then rinse the tattoo with lukewarm clean water.
- Gently clean off any blood or plasma, then pat dry with a clean paper towel.
- Let it air-dry for 5–10 minutes.
- Days 2–3: rinse with bottled mineral water 2–3 times a day, pat dry — no cream yet.
If Using Second Skin
- Leave it on for 3–5 days as directed by your artist.
- Fluid buildup (blood, ink, plasma) under the bandage is normal.
- Do not swim — this dressing is not made for soaking.
- Remove earlier if: fluid buildup is excessive, redness/pain worsens, an allergic reaction appears, or the edges start lifting.
Step 2 – Day 3 Until Healed
- Start applying a thin layer of fragrance-free aftercare cream 2–3 times a day.
- Less is more — your tattoo should not look overly wet or shiny from too much cream.
- Continue this routine until the skin surface is fully smooth and healed.
